They say that if you want a different result, you need to do something different. They say that the definition of insanity is to do the same thing and expect a different result. They say that your life is a reflection of the choices you have made and that if you want a different life, make a different choice.
If you could have done something differently or made a different choice, wouldn’t you have done so already?
It makes sense when you are a child to use these primitive problem solving tools. A child who wants something will ask for it over and over and over. That’s the extent of their problem solving tools
As you gain the capacity for rational thought and become skilled at analyzing a situation, you use these new problem solving tools to help you get what you want. You gain some knowledge, acquire some skills, make a plan, and move forward. There are circumstances where these skills work really well.
There are, however, circumstances in which these problem solving abilities don’t seem to work and whatever you try to do, you self-sabotage what you want the most.
In those cases, using the same tools and doing the same things over and over will not give you a different result no matter how long you do them or how much you try to push through.
I worked with many professionals over the years (coaches, therapists, mentors) who had amazing expertise and abilities, yet the problem was that they were using tools based in analyzing a situation and rational thought. They would help me to understand why I was self-sabotaging and why I couldn’t achieve the success I was looking for. They might even have helped me to see how my past experiences, both childhood experiences and repeated adult experiences, skewed my view of my reality. I was very open to looking at myself and how I was self-sabotaging, to a point. The professionals I worked with helped me to the extent their tools could help and yet, I knew there was a better way and determined to find out.
It wasn’t until I explored energy work, particularly energy work used to address beliefs and traumas, that I was able to experience the breakthroughs I knew existed but hadn’t been able to achieve. Some people may think it’s too woo woo, too New Age, perhaps even crazy. All I know is that it works and I don’t care what anyone else thinks.
I could have continued to use the same tools and lived in a reality that was limited and based in probabilities. Something in me knew that I didn’t have to live that way. I wanted to live a life based in possibilities and I knew it was possible. I didn’t want to live my fate. I wanted to create my destiny. And I wanted to help others to do the same.
I am always honest with the people I work with. I certainly don’t have it all together and I don’t have all the answers. Like you, I am a work in progress.
What has changed for me is that I now have tools that can help me to expand what’s possible, free myself of limiting beliefs and traumas that are holding me back, and experience all that’s possible for me. Call me crazy. I’m ok with that 🙂
